  1. 1902- . German filmmaker. Her film of the
  2. Nazi rallies at Nuremberg, Triumph des
  3. Willens/Triumph of the Will 1934, vividly
  4. illustrated Hitler's charismatic appeal but
  5. tainted her career. After World War II her
  6. work was blacklisted by the Allies until
  7. 1952. She trained as a dancer, appearing in
  8. films in the 1920s, but in the early 1930s
  9. formed her own production company, and
  10. directed and starred in Das blaue Licht/The
  11. Blue Light 1932. She also made a two-part
  12. documentary of the 1936 Berlin Olympics.
  13. Unable to pursue her film career after being
  14. blacklisted, she turned to photography and is
  15. known for the volumes of photographs that
  16. have resulted from her visits to Africa, such
  17. as The Last of the Nuba 1973 and Mein
  18. Afrika/My Africa 1982.
